Nestled within the maritime tapestry of Morgan, New Jersey, Luhrs Boats finds its origins rooted in a legacy of seafaring heritage that spans back to the 1830s. It was here that Henry Luhrs, an enterprising immigrant from Germany, first felt the allure of the ocean's call. Embracing the maritime trade with fervor, Henry swiftly established himself as a prominent figure in the bustling marine community of New York City, eventually paving the way for the family's enduring legacy in boat building and supply.
Over the years, the Luhrs family's passion for the sea became a steadfast tradition passed down through generations. Henry's grandson, also named Henry, continued the family's maritime pursuits, establishing the Henry Luhrs Sea Skiff Company in Morgan. Through dedication and innovation, the company flourished, earning a reputation for quality craftsmanship that resonated far beyond the shores of New Jersey.
However, the journey was not without its challenges. In 1965, faced with an offer too compelling to ignore, the Luhrs family bid farewell to their beloved company as it changed hands under the stewardship of Bangor Punta Corporation. Yet, adversity only fueled the family's determination to forge ahead. John and Warren Luhrs, sons of the Henry Luhrs who had blazed the trail before them, embarked on a new chapter, acquiring Silverton Sea Skiffs and founding Hunter Marine and Mainship.
In 1985, the Luhrs name was reclaimed, marking a momentous occasion in the brand's history. With renewed vigor, Luhrs Boats embarked on a journey of renaissance, guided by a commitment to excellence and a vision for the future. The opening of a state-of-the-art production facility in St. Augustine, Florida, signaled the dawn of a new era, as Luhrs reaffirmed its position as a leading force in the world of sportfishing.
